HD Radio Not Ready for Holidays

ibiquity.jpg

The availability of HD radio, which both iBiquity and Entercom executives said would increase dramatically in the second half of this year, is still scarce, and will miss the holiday buying season, writes Mediaweek. Only six HD radio models are currently available - five after-market car radios and one high-end home system.

In Detroit, the focus for the rollout, Motor City broadcasters that had expected to receive new tabletop units from Boston Accoustics last month were told they will not have them until January, and delivery of units from other companies have been pushed back as well.

One Detroit programmer told Billboard Radio Monitor that HD is still a year to a year-and-a-half from kicking in. Tom Bender, senior VP/regional GM of Greater Media Detroit, says buyers are still the early adopters.
