Big deal,” wrote one respondent, which mirrored the sentiments of a number of readers, according to the article. As for Stern’s impact on Sirius and the terrestrial stations he is leaving, 35.5 percent of respondents agreed with the statement “The big move’s a failure. It’s laughable Sirius paid this man $500 million…”
On the other hand, 28.6 percent believe that the stations he is leaving behind will see ad sales plummet, “…because they used Stern to sell other dayparts.”
And do media buyers think Stern’s move to satellite will help subscriptions? More than 27 percent agree that, “Between new subscribers buying Sirius for Stern and competitor XM’s price breaks to woo them away, satellite radio as a whole will be the huge winner in all of this.” But 55 percent said that Sirius subscribers would bump some, “but not as much as Stern or Sirius would have you believe.”
