NBC Stations Cave, Pull Book of Daniel

NBC Stations Cave, Pass On Book of Daniel

The Book of Daniel debuts today on the NBC Television Network, but two stations owned by Nexstar Broadcasting Group — WTWO-TV, Terre Haute, Ind.; and KARK-TV, Little Rock, Ark. - will pre-empt it because of pressure to do so from American Family Association, MediaPost reports.

The show is about an Episcopal priest with an addiction to pain-killers and a stressful relationship with his church superiors.

“The decision by NBC to air the series reflects the anti-Christian bias which exists at the highest levels of the network,” Donald E. Wildmon, chairman of AFA, has said. The AFA also said it has problems with a gay character on the show.

Duane Lammers, general manager, COO of Nexstar Broadcasting, said his decision to not air the show has nothing to do with the AFA protest, Mediaweek reports. “I could care less about that organization,” he said. “This is an opportunity for me to say to my network, I don’t appreciate what I’m seeing on the airspace.”
