ABC’s World News Tonight’s co-anchor Bob Woodruff and ABC News cameraman Doug Vogt were seriously injured Sunday in Iraq when the army vehicle from which they were reporting detonated a bomb, Mediaweek reports. Both are said to be in serious but stable condition.
Woodruff’s injuries come only weeks after he was named co-anchor of World News Tonight, along with Elizabeth Vargas, and just months after the death of former anchor Peter Jennings. There has been no speculation as to how long Woodruff will be absent from the nightly broadcast, and the network has not yet begun to consider what decisions need to be made, Media Life writes.
“We haven’t even begun to think about format questions yet,” a network spokesperson said. “We will do what makes the most sense. The focus is almost entirely on Bob and Doug’s health at this point. Questions about format are for another day.”
On CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday, anchor Bob Schieffer wished Woodruff and Vogt well, AP reports. “It just hit us all like a lightning bolt because we’ve all been there,” he later told The Associated Press.
