United Airlines Adds XM Programming

United Airlines today announced it has added up to 19 music channels (depending on aircraft type) from XM Satellite radio to its onboard audio entertainment beginning this month. Channels will include Top 20 on 20 for latest hits, Suite 62 for adult R&B, Highway 16 for country fans, the Blend for adult contemporary, Top Tracks for classic rock, XM Pops for classical music, Bluesville to hear jazz and blues and Soul Street for classic soul.

Daily Mobile Advertising Route Available in Chicago’s ‘Loop’

Mobile advertising company Media Trucks has launched a “permanent,” daily mobile advertising route with a scrolling billboard truck that circulates through the Loop and surrounding areas, the River North neighborhood, and the Magnificent Mile portion of Michigan Avenue Monday through Friday for a minimum of 40 hours per week.

The CW Signs Five Affiliates

The CW has signed up five affiliates, representing 4 percent of total TV households, bringing its total national coverage to almost 52 percent of the country, and in 18 of the nation’s top 20 markets, TheStreet.com writes. The new agreements are with a Winston Broadcasting station in Cleveland, an Emmis station in Orlando, Capital Broadcasting in Charlotte, Cascade in Louisville and Weigel Broadcasting in South Bend. These are the first independently owned stations to join the CW.

AP Online Video Net Launched, Shows Video of Bush Being Warned of Katrina Calamity

The Associated Press (AP) has officially launched its AP Online Video Network in the U.S. after two months in beta, MarketingVox reports. Powered by MSN Video and using AP content, the ad-supported service will allow some 4,000 AP newspaper and broadcast member websites to offer a free breaking-news video content to their audience, initially totaling 45 million unique visitors. At launch, 450 sites had signed up. The service will offer 40 or so video clips per day covering national, international, technology, business and entertainment news, including this week’s Academy Awards.

Only nine hours after the launch of the network, paidContent points out, the AP posted video of President Bush, Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff and other government officials being warned about Katrina, a day before it struck.

CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo Launches Weekday Radio Show

Host of CNBC’s Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo and host and managing editor of The Wall Street Journal Report, announced her first radio venture, a weekday personal-finance segment called Money Minute, set to air May 1 on Clear Channel Radio stations nationwide. It will be syndicated through Premiere Radio Networks.

Hispanics Follow General Market in Education Category’s Unique Visitor Metric

According to figures released by Terra.com - the U.S. Hispanic arm of the Terra Networks group that provides portal services to Spanish speaking users in the U.S. - U.S. Hispanics have an online presence in the education category and are a quality audience target. From January 2005 to January 2006, U.S. Hispanics had a three percent growth in the unique visitor metric education category, which follows the overall general market’s 4 percent increase. The general market panel reached 84,959,000 unique visitors, while the U.S. Hispanic panel reached 7,129,000.

U.S. Hispanics’ online activity was greater among college student than adults, with 73 percent of college students using email versus 51 percent of adults, making online college students a premium audience.
