TiVo released details yesterday for a new programming service, TiVo Kidzone - which incorporates recommendations from advocacy groups Parents Television Council and Common Sense Media - designed to deliver quality programming to children, writes Broadcasting & Cable.
The service gives parents the ability to block out offensive programming, customize the “KidZone” electronic guide to their child’s age, and protect access settings with a parental password.
“This is not about blocking shows, this is about finding the best shows,” said TiVo CEO Tom Rogers. He also said one selling point of KidZone would be functionality, as TiVo maintains efforts to license its software for compatibility with cable set-tops.
KidZone software will be included free on the TiVo “Series2″ units - to be released in June to the 1.4 million users of TiVo’s boxes - but will not be compatible with the current “Series 1″ boxes, writes The New York Times.
