CafePress Introduces Tag-Based Ads for Affiliates

Online marketplace CafePress has added tag-based targeting capabilities to ads on websites in its affiliate program, allowing webmasters and bloggers to serve TopicAds ads based on the tags on their content, reports ClickZ (via MarketingVox). When a visitor arrives at a webpage, an appropriate ad is served based on the relevancy and timeliness of the tags placed there by the affiliate.

“Online advertising has evolved in many ways over the years, but TopicAds are going to take online advertising from Stone Age text links to contextually relevant graphic-based ads,” said CafePress cofounder and VP of Business Development Maheesh Jain in a statement. “Every time you update your blog you can easily update your tags to match the subjects of your most recent entry. When your readers follow that link and buy something from the CafePress Marketplace you can earn up to a 20 percent commission.”

Publishers need to copy and paste a line of HTML to their site or blog, and then begin tagging content; they can select a “kid-friendly” version that restricts the type of ads shown.
