CW, My Network TV Increase Total U.S. Coverage

The CW - which signed five affiliates last week, continues to gain market share as it signed five more affiliates yesterday, boosting its total coverage to nearly 54 percent of the U.S., reports Mediaweek. Fox’s new prime-time network My Network TV has also picked up five new affiliates, which brings its total coverage to 40 percent of the U.S., Mediaweek writes in another article.

The CW signed long-term agreements with outlets in Kansas City (market rank number 31), Rochester (79), Chattanooga (86), El Paso (99) and Youngstown (102). The companies have agreed to carry the CW’s 30-hour lineup that combines programming from the WB and UPN networks.

My Network TV’s new affiliates include outlets in Cleveland (market rank number 16), Charlotte (27), Honolulu (72), Baton Rouge (96) and Palm Springs (153). The network offers 12 hours of prime-time programming, no reverse compensation and more local inventory.

“I love the concept of My Network TV’s business and programming model,” said Paul McTear, CEO of Raycom, which owns the Cleveland, Baton Rouge and Honolulu affiliates. “This network’s station-friendly strategic plan presents a great long-term option for broadcasters.”

Fox TV Stations CEO Jack Abernethy said Twentieth is confident it will have “more than 90 percent of the country cleared by launch.”
