Google Local Business Ads Launched

As anticipated, Google has officially launched a map-based advertising feature that allows businesses to place photos and logos inside balloons that mark on Google Maps where the merchants are located, CNET reports (via MarketingVox). Barnes & Noble and Ralph Lauren have purchased keywords and have tested the new Local Business Ads system, according to Dominic Preuss, product manager for Google’s local advertising.

2007 Online Technology Ad Spending to Hit $2.8 Billion

A new report released by eMarketer yesterday, called “Technology Marketing: Customer Driven Convergence,” estimates that the computing category will spend $2.8 billion on online advertising of computing (hardware and software) products in 2007 - representing 16 percent of all online ads for next year, BtoB writes.

Bush Billboard in Boston Ordered Removed

The Massachusetts state Outdoor Advertising Board has ordered Boston developer John Rosenthal to remove a billboard that sits atop a parking garage between Fenway Park and the Massachusetts Turnpike which shows George Bush’s eyes and the phrase “Little Brother Is Watching,” according to the Boston Globe.

Facebook Source: Report Untrue, Company Not for Sale

According to a source close to Facebook, the social networking company is not seeking a buyer, though it has indeed been approached by prospective buyers, TheDeal.com writes. The company declined to comment.

BusinessWeek pegged Facebook as possibly fetching up to $2 billion, more than triple the amount News Corp. paid last July for MySpace.com. Facebook is second in terms of traffic among social networking sites, with 10.5 million unique visitors to the site in February, up 271 percent from 2.8 million a year ago. MySpace had 37.3 million unique visitors in February. ComScore lists Facebook as the seventh most-trafficked site on the internet in terms of page views in the U.S.
