General Mills’ Box Tops for Education points program that donates money to local schools is overtaking the old points program -which included a catalog featuring products that consumers could acquire by collecting points.

Bakers Launches Footwear Catalog

According to president Michele Bergerac, Bakers Footwear Group launched its 32-page print catalog last month, mailing to about 400,000 online customers, B Card loyalty program members and prospects, writes Multichannel Merchant. Bergerac said the company created a print catalog to “continue to build our brand, communicate the message of our store remodel program and product upgrade, and to reach new customers.”

The new AdWords feature (not available in the Starter Edition) is located in the Edit Settings screen and allows advertisers to essentially opt out of various positions, acting as a filter.

Podcasts Siphoning Revenue from NPR Stations

Some National Public Radio listeners are bypassing its semiannual fund drive and instead loading up their MP3 players with the various NPR programs available as podcasts, writes Wired (via MarketingVox). Both blessing and curse, the medium is expanding NPR’s convenience and access, but it’s also siphoning listeners away from local stations. The CW has named Michael Roberts, currently head of programming for The WB, as programming head, Broadcasting & Cable writes. Roberts has headed current programming at The WB since 2004, before which he spent 10 years at Walt Disney Pictures.

March Ad Time Down 5.9%

Radio advertising for March was down 5.9 percent, to 10.4 minutes per hour, with morning drive slots seeing a 6.4 percent decline while afternoon drive posted a 5.8 percent reduction in commercial time, Radio Ink writes, reporting on Harris Nesbitt’s monthly Radio Airtime Monitor.
