Roth Axed, Opie and Anthony Back on CBS

David Lee Roth’s ruinous career move as a radio talk show host may be ending after a four-month run, as CBS is allegedly axing him and bringing on raunchy talk jocks Opie and Anthony, the Boston Herald reports. CBS fired the pair four years ago after they broadcast a couple having sex in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. They were also yanked off Boston’s WAAF-FM in 1998 after having erroneously told listeners - on April Fools Day - that the mayor of the city had died in a car crash in Florida.

The pair then tried out XM Satellite Radio and became one of XM’s most popular shows. XM will syndicate the show on those stations.

Roth replaced Howard Stern on the East Coast after Stern left for Sirius. Earlier this month, CBS sent Roth several letters demanding changes to the show. Roth complained that CBS executives didn’t offer him enough support when he began airing, and that he didn’t know what he was doing.
