Online Media Marts Step Forward After eBay Selection

After the announcement that a committee of senior marketing executives, requested by Wal-Mart vp-marketing communications Julie Roehm, had selected reputable eBay as the digital infrastructure provider for the $50 million “test phase” of a new online media trading system set to begin May 12, several ad brokers came forward to point out that an internet media trading system currently exists, MediaPost writes.

According to the article, although the smaller, rather untested systems embody innovation in online media sales to date, with billions of ad dollars on the line, it’s doubtful that the committee seriously considered them.

Following the announcement, Strata Marketing hyped its partnership with Spot Buy Spot that currently allows some 800 media buying agencies to make online media transactions for broadcast and cable TV and radio. Also, online broker for radio spot sales, Bid4Spots - which recently hit the $1 million mark - has also responded to the eBay announcement, promoting its reverse auctions system that’s been in place since September 2005.
