NY Times Puts Ads on Business Front Page, Considers Shrinking Width

The New York Times reports that it plans to sell ads on the front of its Business Day section starting in two weeks. The ads will appear in a strip along the bottom of the page and are expected to sell at a premium rate.


The Times already runs ads on the front of The Metro Section on Sundays, and some newspapers, including USA Today, are now selling advertising space on their front pages.

The paper is also considering other cost-saving measures in the face of reduced circulation numbers for U.S. newspapers, including shrinking the width of the paper, a move that wouldn’t happen before 2008. The Wall Street Journal announced in October that it would shrink its pages starting next year.
