NBC will make the premier episodes of Sony’s Kidnapped and Warner Brothers Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip available for Netflix subscribers before they arrive to TV. There are 5 million Netflix subscribers.
According to Broadcasting and Cable, it is believed to be the only promotional deal between a network and the largest online movie rental service scheduled for fall. However, the deal does not mean Netflix won’t enter into promotional arrangements with other broadcast and cable networks in the future.
CBS is in the early stages of discussing promotional ideas, but to date has nothing to report. Other networks such as ABC, Fox and The CW have stated they have not discussed any deals with Netflix.
NBC will create DVD’s of the premier shows six weeks prior to the debuts. The special DVD’s will include preview trailers of the network’s other new fall dramas. They will be mailed to subscribers of Netflix once they are added to their personal queues on Netflix.com. For people who show early interest in the offer, the promotion will be extended to September 17.
