Martha Stewart Empire’s Losses Shrinking

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia has successfully navigated its trying times, according to the company, and is seeing significant gains in advertising revenues and new business opportunities.

While profits still aren’t on the horizon - the company anticipates an operating loss of between $10.5 million and $11.5 million this year - the second quarter loss it reported today, at $1.8 million, was just a fraction of the $34.2 million loss it showed in Q2 of last year, AdAge writes. Revenue rose 47 percent in the second quarter from Q2 05, mainly from increased ad revenue at magazine titles such as Martha Stewart Living and Everyday Food, and the company expects ad page growth for those titles to increase by 45 percent and 60 percent respectively.

The syndicated TV show, Martha, expects to lose a “couple million dollars” in its second season, according to Susan Lyne, president-CEO, during a conference call with analysts, but she added that the program does create content useful on the website and that the company thinks there are different ways to monetize the show while creating value in its other businesses.
