Arbitron recently announced that it will include satellite radio channel ratings in its market reports beginning with their Fall 2006 survey.
Satellite radio will be reported only in markets where certain satellite radio channels make minimum reporting standards, Mediaweek reports.
Arbitron will also release the results of the Spring 2006 survey for the New Orleans and Biloxi-Gulfport-Pascagoula areas on Monday, Aug. 14. Due to hurricane Katrina, many areas affected have been without radio since August 2005. For instance in New Orleans, Arbitron had to cancel the Summer 2005, Fall 2005 and Winter 2006 surveys. The reports for Fall 2005 for Biloxi were also cancelled.
Over the next two weeks, Arbitron will prepare and release a white paper detailing population estimates, survey execution and sample performance metrics for these markets. The company will also hold meetings in the markets with its customers to review the information in the white paper and answer questions.
According to reports based on population estimates from Claritas, New Orleans’ market rank fell from No. 46 to No. 58 with a population of 864,1000. Biloxi, formerly ranked No. 139, fell to No. 143 with a population of 303,400.
Marketers have unleashed their holiday promotions earlier than ever this year, with many hitting the stores well before Thanksgiving. But Sirius XM isn’t launching most of its 24-hour holiday music channels until turkey day or later.
