NFL Network Petitions Time Warner for Reinstatement

The NFL Network filed a petition with the FCC on Tuesday requesting that Time Warner discuss long-term carriage and reinstatement of the Network. Time Warner recently pulled the NFL Network from its Adelphia cable systems when it acquired Adelphia August 1.

The FCC has ordered that Time Warner reinstate carriage of the NFL Network to the Adelphia systems “in the public interest,” until a decision can be reached, Mediaweek reports. It also ordered that Time Warner must follow the rule that cable operators must give subscribers 30 days notice before dropping a channel.

Time Warner must file a response to the petition, as stated by the FCC, by no later than August 15. This will give the NFL Network a chance to respond by August 20.

Time Warner pulled the NFL Network from cities that have NFL teams such as Cleveland, Buffalo and Dallas. It also pulled the network during a crucial time when the NFL season is getting under way which is particularly harmful to the customers, the FCC contends.
