WSJ Ad Revenue Grows 5.8 Percent

The Wall Street Journal’s efforts to increase advertising revenue seem to have paid off in July.

WSJ owner Dow Jones has reported that advertising revenues at its flagship newspaper rose 5.8 percent in July compared to the same month last year, while ad volume increased 11.7 percent, Editor & Publisher reports. The newspaper’s classified, tech and financial advertising increased, although general advertising saw a slight decline.

Barron’s saw total ad revenue skyrocket by 50.7 percent last month, with a 29.1 percent increase in advertising pages, thanks to an increase in financial advertising plus one additional issue compared to the same period last year. However, the increase was partially offset by a decrease in automobile advertising.
