Us Weekly Launches Russian Edition

Us Weekly will debut a Russian edition, called US Magazine, on Sept. 4 that will appear in Moscow and St. Petersburg and across the former Soviet Union.

Wenner Media, which owns Us Weekly, is piggybacking on an arrangement the company already has to publish Rolling Stone in the former Soviet Union, The New York Times reports.

US Weekly’s chief competition will be from Hello! magazine from Britain.

The overseas market could offer more potential for growth. Us Weekly is starting in the former Soviet Union with a relatively small circulation of 100,000 on newsstands (Rolling Stone’s circulation in Russia is 71,000). Us might next look at Asia and Latin America.
