David Letterman will continue to host The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS through the 2009-10 season.
Negotiations on a contract extension have been ongoing for months, but talks reportedly have gone smoothly and the contract is close to being finalized, writes Reuters. According to sources close to both CBS and Letterman, there was never any doubt that he would extend his tenure at the show.
Previous deals between CBS and Letterman included a series of one-year options - a reflection of the conflict between the two parties four-and-a-half years ago. This deal is for a four-year commitment.
Letterman is one of TV’s highest paid personalities. Details of the new deal were unclear.
