CBS Promotes Fall Series via Phones, Radio

CBS has engaged in some unusual and innovative advertising for its fall shows, including hiring a crop artist to carve a silhouette of a scene from upcoming show Jericho in a cornfield in Kansas, and streaming clips of shows to consumers’ Bluetooth-enabled gadgets from billboards.

Now, the network is continuing to explore new means of advertising, this time through promoting its fall lineup over the telephone, with advertiser-supported directory assistance service 1-800-FREE411, writes DM News. Recorded messages from the stars of several shows, including Survivor, Smith, Jericho and Ghost Whisperer, will be played for callers as they wait for their requested phone number.

Callers can choose to receive a text message on their mobile phones to remind them of the show as the programming time draws near.

CBS is also partnering with CBS Radio to create an online radio show. The result will be a one-week online JACK-FM show, featuring stars from the fall season, writes Mediaweek. The show will be hosted by CBS prime time stars from existing hit shows such as CSI and new shows such Shark, who will play their favorite songs of all time and share the “inside track” on new and returning series.

Celebrity soundbites from the online show will be broadcast on CBS Radio’s 12 Jack stations in top markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas.
