ABC Wins Thursday for Second Week

Ugly Betty, an adaptation of a Columbian telenovela, averaged a 4.9 in adults 18-49 last Thursday, finishing second in the 8 p.m. hour to CBS’s Survivor.

Ugly Betty’s premiere helped ABC achieve its second straight Thursday night victory, a difficult achievement on a night that has been called the most competitive night on television. The show recorded the fifth-best premiere for a new show this season, and grew 25 percent from its first half hour to its second, writes Media Life. It was only the third debut of the season to grow in its second half. The others were NBC’s Heroes and CBS’s Jericho.

The show likely got a boost from viewers who tuned in early in anticipation of the 9 p.m. hit Grey’s Anatomy (once again achieving first place among 18-49s). But Ugly Betty also won its time slot for women 18-49 and women 18-34.
