Kohl’s opens 65 new stores today, and to drive traffic to the stores, the company is increasing its direct mail.
The opening of the new stores - complete with new signage, gleaming glass fronts and less cluttered merchandising - marks the largest one-day opening in Kohl’s history, writes MediaPost. The opening comes just days after the company reported that year-to-year sales for the five-week period in Sept. increased 26.1 percent. Comparable store sales jumped 16.3 percent.
In addition to a direct mail push, Kohl’s is launching a TV campaign and has intensified its multi-platform marketing programs. Advertorials are running in current issues of magazines like Self, Allure and Lucky.
Kohl’s plans to operate about 1200 new stores by 2010, according to the company. Eventually, the existing stores will be redesigned to the new prototypes.
