Kids are increasingly watching television programming online, according to a new study from MindShare Online Research group.
The survey, based on 800 kids between the ages of 8 and 17 and split evenly between the sexes, indicated that one-third of teens ages 12-17 and one quarter of tweens ages 8-12 watch TV on the internet. Twelve percent said they watch it on their video game systems, and single-digit levels of respondents said they watch on their cell phones or iPods, writes MediaPost.
The listenership of iPod/MP3 players has doubled in the last year among teens, but the No. 1 device owned by youths remains the radio. Broadcast radio is also the most popular way to listen to music.
Television was the medium that would be most missed if taken away, followed by video games and the internet. Newspapers and magazines, perhaps predictably, barely registered a single percentage point.
In all, the study shows that the amount of television being consumed by youth is the highest it has ever been.
