NPR’s executive vp for news, William K. Marimow, has reportedly been asked to take a lower position as ombudsman.
It is not clear whether Marimow will take another non-news job, accept the position or agree to a buyout, according to current and former colleagues at the broadcasting network, writes the New York Times. Currently, Marimow oversees NPR’s global news-gathering operation, which includes All Things Considered and Morning Edition.
The decision to move Marimow would be the first step by new chief executive Ken Stern, according to the article.
The ombudsman at NPR serves as a listener’s representative. That post has been vacant for about three months.
