The radio industry plans to tempt consumers into purchases of HD Radio this holiday season with a rebate program that will reduce prices on 20 different HD radio receivers by $50.
The program, which began this week and runs through Jan. 14, brings prices of many products below the $200 threshold, according to Radio Ink. Robert Struble, president and CEO of iBiquity, which developed and licenses HD radio technology, points out that prices of receivers have already fallen substantially in the past year.
“The holiday rebate program will help more consumers enjoy the HD radio experience, discover fresh new content on HD2 and HD3 channels, access more information through HD radio text capabilities and, of course, hear the great sound quality that HD radio broadcasting offers,” he says in a statement.
