IPG Plans Media Overhaul

Interpublic Group looks to be in the middle of a major reorganization of Interpublic Media, the holding company division that oversees major media shops Initiative, Universal McCann and Magna Global.

Interpublic Media CEO Mark Rosenthal, who took a medical leave this summer, is likely to step down from that post, but could end up with another role at the company, according to Adweek. Terri Santisi, Interpublic Media’s CFO since coming onboard 10 months ago, was given interim responsibilities for the media division when Rosenthal went on leave. However, Santisi will not take on a longer role as CEO but is rather leaving, effective Nov. 1, to join sports and entertainment marketing company IMG, where she will assume the role of evp, chief financial and administrative officer.

Rosenthal’s appointment in mid-2005 followed a series of client losses including the departure of GM’s $3.2 billion buying business. The account was given to competitor Starcom MediaVest Group.

Sources say that IPG CEO Michael Roth has not been happy with Rosenthal. During his tenure, Rosenthal hired Santisi. According to sources, it became clear while Santisi was acting as interim CEO, that she would not have a leadership role at the company moving forward. Rosenthal also lured Nick Brien away from Publicis Groupe’s Arc Worldwide to become CEO of Universal McCann.
