Anti-spam group Spamhaus has reportedly decided to appeal the recent $11.7 million judgment against it.
Last month, an Illinois court ruled against Spamhaus in a default judgment, when the group failed to show up at court to defend itself against a lawsuit brought by direct marketer e360 Insight, writes Direct Magazine. The direct marketer argued that Spamhaus has harmed the marketer’s business by placing the company’s IP addresses on its blacklist, causing more than half of e360 Insight’s email to fail to reach recipients.
U.K.-based Spamhaus originally claimed that the Illinois court has no jurisdiction over it and asked e360insight to file a suit in the U.K.
When Spamhaus as much as ignored the Illinois court’s ruling, the judge proposed an order for the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers to shut down Spamhaus’s domain. ICANN stated that, even if ordered to do so, it would not comply, saying it didn’t have the ability or authority to suspend Spamhaus.org or any specific domain name.
