Time Inc. has removed Fortune managing editor Eric Pooley and replaced him with senior editor at large Andrew Serwer.
Serwer becomes the magazine’s third top editor in less than six years, writes The New York Times. The change is effective immediately.
John Huey, editor in chief of Time Inc., said in a statement that Pooley will work with him and with Jim Kelly, former managing editor of Time magazine, on investigative projects.
Serwer has been at the front of the effort to convert much of the print content of Time Inc.’s publications to other forms of content, according to the article. Sources say that Huey has given the impression of wanting to create buzz and new momentum for Fortune, and that moving Serwer was a good way to do that.
Fortune has recently lost three writers to Conde Nast’s Portfolio, which will debut in April. Huey claims to look forward to the competition from Portfolio, saying that its arrival on the marketplace could reinvigorate the whole category of business magazines.
