Jon Stewart a Top Source for Election ‘News’

When looking at the numbers of Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show versus other cable networks in the run-up to last night’s midterm election, it looks as though people were getting their election news from the faux current events program.

Last Wednesday, Nov. 1, Stewart scored his second-best rating of adults 18-49 of the year, and the third-best in series history, at a 1.3, writes Media Life. The show was day three in a weeklong series titled Battlefield Ohio: The Daily Show’s Midwest Midterm Midtacular.

With 2.0 million total viewers for the night, the show bettered all but one on the Big Three news networks. The O’Reilly Factor on Fox News averaged 2.4 million total viewers on Wednesday at 8 p.m., while Hannity and Colmes averaged 2 million at 9 p.m. The Daily Show tied Hannity and Colmes despite the fact that it aired two hours later, at 11 p.m.
O’Reilly was, in fact, the only show during the week ended Nov. 5 to outdraw the Daily Show among total viewers.

CNN’s No. 1 program in prime time, Larry King Live, drew 1.2 million viewers last Tuesday, its best outing for the week, while MSNBC’s top show in total viewers in prime time was Tuesday’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann, which averaged 887,000.
