ABC, CBS Lead Sweeps, NBC Gaining

After the first week, ABC is leading the Nov. sweeps among adults 18-49, while CBS is first in total viewers, according to Nielsen data through Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Only 160,000 viewers separate ABC and CBS, unlike recent years in which CBS was the immediate guaranteed winner in that metric, writes Mediaweek. For ABC, up 6 percent in total viewers this year compared to last, this is a notable performance, given that the network was expected to see reduced audiences without Monday Night Football.

CBS and NBC are tied for No. 2 among adults 18-49, at 9 percent below ABC. CBS is down slightly in total viewers and adults 18-49, while NBC has seen a growth of 9 percent in total viewers and 18 percent among adults 18-49. By the end of Nov. sweeps in 2005, NBC’s season-to-date ratings in 18-49 were down 15 percent from the previous year. NBC’s growth has been boosted by the addition of Sunday Night Football.

Fox trails in fourth place in both categories, down 7 percent in total viewers and 13 percent in adults 18-49.

The CW is at levels identical to the WB last year, but is down by 50,000 viewers from UPN.
