As predicted, it looks as though buyers held onto their money during the upfront and are now spending it in scatter. That means that inventory is getting scarce. “November is virtually sold out on cable and network,” Gary Carr, senior vp and director of national broadcast for TargetCast TCM is quoted as saying. December is even tighter for cable networks, a month during which they usually have plenty of commercial inventory.
Fox, as earlier reported, is likely not to meet its upfront guarantees to advertisers and will face a makegoods situation. The CW, too, is pulling ratings 15 to 20 percent below its guarantee.
