Amanda Congdon, the former host of Rocketboom, which pulls in 211,000 viewers a day, is moving from the web to mainstream media - making her the first video blogger to go big time.Congdon will appear on Disney’s ABC News Now, a 24-hour digital channel, and will also host a weekly video blog on abcnews.com, where she’ll cover topics such as new media, the environment and politics, according to Business Week (via MarketingVox). Congdon will also develop a comedy that will appear online and on air for Time Warner’s HBO.
Congdon’s move is good news for internet celebrities, or ‘cewebrities’, everywhere. Online content network blip.tv, which hosted a Congdon’s post-Rocketboom vlog AmandaAcrossAmerica, is regularly approached by traditional media outlets.
“We have had meetings with a bunch of Hollywood agencies,” says Dina Kaplan, a blip.tv cofounder. “They see us as a farm team for them.”
