Arbitron Inc. and Interep announced today that Interep, the largest independent national radio representative firm in the United States, has signed an agreement for Arbitron Portable People Meter radio ratings services in the top 50 radio markets when Arbitron commercializes the PPM.
Interep represents many of the nation’s biggest broadcast groups including ABC/Disney, Beasley, Buckley Radio, CBS Radio, Cumulus Media Partners, Curtis Media, Emmis Communications, Entercom, Franklin Financial Media, Inner City Broadcasting, Renda Broadcasting and Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS).
Arbitron plans to launch the Portable People Meter system as its radio ratings service in the top 50 markets by fall 2010, beginning with Houston (pending Media Rating Council accreditation in that market).
Ralph Guild, chairman/CEO of Interep, said, “The advertising community has made it clear that radio must adopt an electronic measurement system in order to effectively compete in the current media environment.”
To date, Arbitron has announced contracts for PPM ratings services with a dozen broadcasting companies. Arbitron also has signed contracts the leading advertising agencies that place more than 90 percent of the national and regional radio advertising dollars.
