Iconic ‘Year without a Santa Claus’ Gets Goodman Remake

NBC will air a live-action remake of the classic animated special, The Year without a Santa Claus, tonight (Monday) at 9 p.m.

The show will star John Goodman as Santa, writes Media Life, which points out that since his run on Roseanne ended nearly a decade ago, Goodman’s television career has been ill-starred, having appeared in two cancelled CBS shows and a snuffed Fox sitcom, among others.

NBC has dominated Mondays among adults 18-49 since the season began. Tonight, however, NBC will have some tough competition, as in addition to Monday Night Football, ABC’s lineup got a boost last week with Supernanny and CBS has a night of original programming planned.
The new movie, with Delta Burke as Mrs. Claus, will include contemporary touches: Santa has a personal dresser and Eddie Griffin plays an elf with a crush on a TV shrink (Dr. Laura Schlessinger plays the shrink).
