After 33 years at the paper, Tom Fiedler will retire as executive editor of the Miami Herald, announced Miami Herald Media Co. president and publisher David Landsberg today.
Fiedler will be replaced by Anders Gyllenhaal, editor and senior vp of The Minneapolis Star Tribune, writes Editor & Publisher.
Gyllenhaal, 55, is no stranger to the South. He used to work for the Miami Herald as reporter and editor, and was also executive editor of The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C.
Star Tribune publisher Keith Moyer wrote, in a letter to staffers (which can be read in its entirety in the article), “I will start now looking for a new editor. But I will not be trying to replace Anders. He is one of a kind.”
Both the Miami Herald and The Minneapolis Star Tribune are now owned by McClatchy.
