Today Show Considers Fourth Hour

To those who didn’t know that there was a third hour to The Today Show (begun in 2000), it may come as a surprise that NBC is considering the possibility of adding a fourth hour.
NBC has not been able to compete successfully with ABC in the early-morning time period, writes MediaPost. That’s why Today launched a second show, following the first show from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., in the 9 p.m. hour. The second show has been moderately successful, though no comparison to the original block.

Program analysts say that a third Today show would make those first shows even more competitive.

NBC has confirmed that a fourth hour is being considered. The network must decide before the National Association of Television Program Executives convention in Las Vegas in mid-January, when stations generally make their decisions on what syndication programming will be added to fall schedules.
