USPS Sees Four Years Positive Income, Good Customer Service

The United States Postal Service has achieved remarkable results from its transformation efforts so far, according to the 2006 Annual Progress Report.

The report, which examines progress made on key strategies identified in the Strategic Transformation Plan, says that the USPS has achieved seven straight years of productivity growth, four years of positive net income, and high levels of service and customer satisfaction, according to DM News. The report points out that the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act, which President Bush signed into law last month, will not affect the USPS’s mission or strategies but will rather allow it to continue its transformation efforts.
Some of the initiatives the report tracked include: launch of new barcode and tracking technologies that aim to give customers a continuous view of the mail; efforts to expand access to services such as Click-N-Ship and Free Package Pickup; expanded automated mail sorting capabilities; and streamlined commercial mailing processes.
The report points out that improvements in address and mailing list quality are critical for 2007.
