The Missouri Attorney General’s office has issued 27 cease-and-desist orders to companies believed to have been engaged in fraudulent direct mail practices.
This is the second stage of a project dubbed Senior Sting, implemented by Missouri AG Jay Nixon, that saw more than 300 senior citizens of Missouri saving their direct mail for a month.
In September, Nixon announced that his office sent 248 letters and notices in the first round of enforcement actions related to Senior Sting. Nixon said the project also is helping Missouri’s seniors recognize many of the various types of scams that show up in their mailboxes.
“My attorneys and investigators examined that mail closely and identified hundreds of pieces that we are following up on with letters, notices, further investigation and, quite likely in some cases, lawsuits,” he said at the time.
The U.S. companies included in this round of orders and further investigation include: AEZ Global Marketing (New York); Advance Promotions Cash Prize headquarters (New York); Card Benefits Services (Georgia); DMI (Texas); National Magazine Exchange (Florida); Office of Disbursement Documents (Nevada); Payment Access Services, Ltd. (Nevada); Prize America (New York); World Wide Award Group (New York).
