DirecTV will be launching a new channel as part of its basic package. The Major League Baseball channel will launch in 2009.
Under the terms of the deal, DirecTV will be a minority partner in the MLB channel, and will work with Major League Baseball to develop the network, writes Mediaweek. Also as part of the deal, DirecTV has agreed to continue to carry the MLB Extra Innings
subscription package of out of market games for seven more years.
The new channel will air seven days a week, 24 hours a day, year round. MLB said DirecTV’s commitment to carry the Channel as a basic service, which reaches more than 15 million homes, was a major factor in making the deal happen.
