Total rate-card-reported ad revenue for magazine rose nearly 7 percent in the first quarter, compared to the same quarter last year, with 10 of the 12 tracked categories showing gains.
According to figures from the Publishers Information Bureau, ad revenue rose 6.9 percent, closing at $5.2 billion, while ad pages were up 1 percent for the quarter, writes BtoB. Categories showing gains included drugs and remedies (up 20.4 percent), retail (19.5 percent), and food and food products (11.7 percent). Declines were shown by categories such as home furnishings and supplies, which was down 14 percent, and financial/insurance/real estate which was down 10 percent.
