Some standard mail flat rates may increase more than 40 percent with the new postal rates, and now the Coalition of Catalog Mailers has petitioned the Postal Regulatory Commission to reopen the rate case record in order to allow testimony that might convince the PRC to give catalog companies more time to transition to the new rates.
The CCM petitioned the PRC earlier this month for more time in which to file a motion to open the record for reconsideration of its recommendations, which the PRC granted, writes DM News. In the April 12 filing (pdf), the CCM said it “offers to provide the commission specific information, on the record, describing the practical difficulties that catalog mailers will experience in responding to unexpectedly high rate increases beginning on May 14, 2007.”
Many of these difficulties could be avoided by allowing catalog companies adequate lead time to work with the Postal Service vendors, according to the filing.
