U-verse TV and internet customers can now schedule shows to be recorded from their AT&T cell phones. The new service enhances an existing service which allows U-verse customers to remote their DVRs via their computers.
“Any television viewer can relate to the frustration of forgetting to program his or her DVR,” Rick Welday, chief marketing officer-AT&T Consumer is quoted as saying in MediaPost. AT&T is hoping to better compete with cable operators which have thrived on what they call the triple play, offering TV/phone/internet packages. AT&T, of course, offers the fourth option of wireless services.
AT&T and Verizon’s TV services are ramping up, despite the fact that they have been all but laughed off by cable operators. U-verse now has 18,000 customers and plans to launch in the Los Angeles market soon. Verizon’s FiOS service has significantly higher distribution.
