CBS Newscast Draws Lowest Figures since Couric’s Arrival

Katie Couric’s CBS Evening News last week drew its smallest audience since before Couric was hired, while ABC’s World News recorded its widest advantage in viewership over NBC’s Nightly News since the week Peter Jennings died in August 2005.

During the first week of sweeps, World News averaged 8.1 million viewers and a 5.7 rating/12 share, writes the AP (via Breitbart.com). Nightly News had 7.5 million viewers, making its fourth-lowest night since at least 1987. CBS averaged 6.05 million viewers.

In prime time, Fox did not take first or even second place, even though American Idol aired that week. In fact, CBS won and ABC followed, helped by a two-hour Grey’s Anatomy special.
