Just weeks before it begins reporting average commercial minute ratings, Nielsen has sent letters to all of its national cable network clients asking that they begin supplying commercial log data to Nielsen in order to make sure Nielsen is properly tracking all their commercial advertising time.
Nielsen said that it already receives commercial log data from most of its broadcast networks and syndication clients, writes MediaPost. The request follows a pre-audit of the company’s commercial tracking system by the Media Ratings Council and a recommendation by its auditors that Nielsen request and utilize weekly commercial occurrence logs from the cable networks that it monitors.
The request would seem to indicate that the new commercial ratings monitoring system is not quite “up to snuff” for measuring commercial ratings, the article suggests. The ratings will be released at the end of the month for the industry to begin evaluating them, and is expected to roll out commercially in the fall.
