The New York Post, which 10 days ago increased its price from 25 cents to 50 cents, has dropped its price again to 25 cents.
The move was just another in a series of tactics in the war between The New York Post and The New York Daily News, writes The New York Times.
In 2000, The Daily News announced it would publish a free afternoon edition; The Post responded by dropping its price from 50 cents to 25 cents. That price decrease resulted in an increase in sales, from less than 500,000 copies a day in 2000 to more than 700,000 today.
Post officials had said that when The Post outsold The Daily News, it would return to 50 cents, which it did on April 30.
At that time, expecting the increase in cost would cause a decline in sales, The Daily News cut its price in half, to 25 cents. News officials have said the price is temporary.
