A day after The New York Times printed a story that negatively portrayed infoUSA’s role in the plight of a 92-year-old Army veteran, the database services company issued a statement claiming that the story unfairly tarnishes the reputation of the direct marketing industry.
The New York Times accused infoUSA of selling personal information to criminal firms that swindled senior citizens, writes The Houston Chronicle. The paper’s claims were based on the files of a completed investigation that took place three years ago and that resulted in authorities clearing infoUSA of all wrongdoing.
“We regret that the Times has chosen to recycle as ‘news’ this 3-year-old, closed inquiry by the Iowa authorities and has done so in such a misleading way,” Vinod Gupta, chairman/CEO of infoUSA, said in the statement.
