Editors Play Musical Chairs at WSJ

The Wall Street Journal is expected to announce major changes to the paper’s top editorial ranks. Deputy managing editor Daniel Hertzberg, the paper’s second-ranking editor, will take off for Europe where he will edit the Wall Street Journal Europe and perhaps take on more responsibilities, writes BusinessWeek.

Mike Williams, the current Europe editor, will return to the U.S. to be Page One editor.
Mike Miller will be promoted from Page One editor to deputy managing editor. Other changes are planned but have not yet been unveiled, and an announcement is expected this week.

The changes will be the first steps the new managing editor, Marcus Brauchli, will take toward remaking the Journal’s news operations during a turbulent time at the paper. Brauchli took the reins from longtime managing editor Paul Steiger in mid-May, just two weeks after Rupert Murdoch announced his $5 billion desire to own the company.
