Imus-Shaped Hole Still Evident at WFAN

Two months after the firing of Don Imus - and after fielding a parade of possible replacements - it appears that CBS Radio and WFAN are taking their time finding somebody to take the morning talk show host’s place.

WFAN is a “success story, with or without Imus - a gigantic success,” Michael Harrison, publisher of trade magazine Talkers, is quoted as saying in the Los Angeles Times. “And that’s why they can take their time to get the right morning host.”
Part of the problem is that there is a shortage of qualified possibles, he says. Another problem is that WFAN is a sports station. The station must consider whether it should hire a sports commentator, follow in Imus’s footsteps with a broader-based morning show, choose a comedian, or another option altogether.

CBS Radio has reportedly considered Dennis Miller and Mancow Muller as possible replacements. Others who have filled in since Imus was ousted include John McEnroe, NBC White House correspondent David Gregory, and Chicago morning man Mike North.
