Soccer superstar David Beckham will begin playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy next month, and his arrival is being heralded by an advertising blitz, writes the AP (via Bay News 9).
An integrated campaign, marked by advertising from the Galaxy, Adidas, Major League Soccer and ESPN, will tout Beckham’s arrival, and the league hopes his star power will be enough to inject MLS with new life.
In addition to being the star of England’s national team at the last three World Cups, Beckham is married to Victoria Adams, the former Posh Spice. He is also friends with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and the Galaxy management may have hopes that games - similar to Lakers games - become a big celeb ticket.
Last fall, Major League Soccer announced that it would become the first major sports league to sell advertising on its jersey fronts.
